Education in India is well evolved, with the Government of India and State Governments overseeing the education needs of the children so much so that in the year 2009, the Indian Parliament enacted the Right to Education Act, which ensures that all children between the ages of 6 and 14 have a fundamental right to free and compulsory education.
Over the years education in India has undergone several makeovers rising to the needs of constant change that seem to engulf us. The advent of the Internet, the phenomenal strides made by technology, the reach of the various communication channels and the availability of the ubiquitous mobile phones in the hands of children have made the various authorities involved in the field of education come alive and tailor the syllabi and curricula to suit these changing needs. In addition to the efforts of the central government and the various state governments, several organisations, such as the NCERT, CBSE and ICSE, have contributed immensely to the development of quality fundamental education in the country.
While the syllabi and curricula can undergo several revisions, what remains constant are the fundamental concepts pertaining to a particular subject. We cannot change the grammar of English. Neither can we change Newton’s laws of motion nor can we change Pythagoras Theorem. Our children need to study these fundamental concepts and assimilate them when their minds are at a stage when they can absorb the maximum amount of learning.
We at Education Quizzes believe that education should imbibe in children the basics of any subject fundamentally and not just superficially (often by rote). Concepts, grammar, formulae, theorems and laws are there, not just to be learnt by heart but to be understood for their intrinsic value. Schools are the primary source of learning and Indian schools, in both private and public sectors, provide excellent opportunities for children to hone their learning abilities in a carefully calibrated and structured manner between the ages of 5 15 years old. In this pursuit of learning, apart from the schools, various other constituents in a child’s sphere of influence contribute substantially. Learning undertaken by children up to the age of 15 would have widened their thinking capacity and forced them to question, dissect, analyse and debate every concept, theorem, law and formula. Such inquisition would help in the overall development of children and they can begin to understand their own capabilities, including shortcomings, if any. In short, children are ready to face the world and take up further challenges in higher education taking into consideration their own individual strengths and weaknesses.
