There are some words we use more often than others and these are called high frequency words. Often these words are quite difficult to spell and so, need to be memorised. Test yourself on these high frequency words.

  1. Spell the missing word: _____ fed the elephants.
    Over 80% of an elephant's day is spent eating!
  2. Spell the missing word: _____ are best friends.
    Here the 'ey' sound makes an 'ay' sound.
  3. Spell the missing word: I _____ you!
    Every February 14th, people in love celebrate and buy each other cards. This day is called Valentine's Day.
  4. Spell the missing word: Will you _____ here?
    The most popular name for dogs is Max!
  5. Spell the missing word: Will you give me _____ of your ice-cream, please?
    There is also a word 'sum' but this means the sum of something, when added together.
  6. Spell the missing word: The book was written _____ H P Smalls.
    The word 'bye' means goodbye, as in you are going somewhere. We wanted to say that the book was written 'by' somebody.
  7. Spell the missing word: He can jump _____ far!
    There is also a word 'sow', which means you sow seeds, put seeds into the ground.
  8. Spell the missing word: Is that _____ seashell?
    There is also the word 'you're', which sounds the same but means 'you are'.
  9. Spell the missing word: _____ favourite colour is red.
    The colour red is considered to be very lucky in China.
  10. Spell the missing word: We will go over _____.
    The word 'there' has 'here' in it, so like the word 'where' it is to do with directions or places.
