(Engaging times tables revision quizzes to teach students in Year 1 and Year 2)
Gee whizz, times tables look complicated. All those numbers, all those answers! Goodness me, where do we start?
Well, good news. We're here to tell you they're not as complicated as they look and actually, times tables are mostly just about memorising the answers.
You see, when adults immediately know the answers to 5 x 9, 2 x 7 and 3 x 8, it's not because they have super fast calculator brains that are working them all out at the speed of light. It's just because they learnt them off by heart! Well, most of them. If Uncle Jimmy says he has a calculator for a brain, who are we to argue?
The point is, any student can learn their times tables if they practise, practise, practise. And we're here to help. Students in KS1 can play quizzes on each set of times tables. We've even included a mixed one for when students have mastered them all and feel confident they've memorised them!
Why do you have to know your times tables? Well, students will be amazed at how many times in life they'll need to access their wealth of times table knowledge. Whether they're shopping or weighing ingredients, knowing times tables is a useful and practical tool that, if mastered properly, can be used for the rest of your life.
Allow us to introduce the marvellous world of fast multiplication. We think students will love how quickly they’ll learn and will feel a sense of beaming pride when they finally learn them all. The good news? You don't have to be a total maths whizz to be good at times tables! As we said, it's all about memory. The best time to get started learning is now.
Psst, once students have learnt them all, they can tell their Uncle Jimmy that they’ve got a calculator brain too...
