This Spanish Easy Review will challenge you on the vocabulary of people. In Spanish Easy Review your biggest task is to learn lots and lots of vocabulary words. After all, you have to know words first before you can start to speak a language. Counting numbers is a good way to begin to learn words but, unfortunately, we don’t just talk in numbers so that will only get you so far. So, before you can really start saying anything, even simple things, there are a series of quizzes that will help you with your vocabulary. Some quizzes here on this site will teach you colors, greetings, the days of the week, the months of the year, clothing, food, occupations and on and on.
This quiz is to introduce you to, or remind you of, people. There are all kinds of people so be on the lookout for other quizzes that will address people such as family members and occupations. For now, we will learn about people in general.
Before checking out the new vocabulary words below, remember that in Spanish words are either masculine or feminine. One of the easiest ways to remember this is that masculine words tend to end in an 'o' while feminine words tend to end in an 'a'. However, there are always exceptions to the rule and those will be pointed out as they come along. So for now, let’s learn all about people!
|English||Spanish||Pronounced (Phonetically) As|
|Man||hombre||om-bray (the 'h' is silent) (notice it ends with 're' and not an 'o')|
|Woman||mujer||moo-hair (the 'j' has an 'h' sound) (notice the word ends in 'er' and not an 'a')|
|Child (male)||niño||knee-nnō (the 'n' has a tilde so more emphasis is given to the 'n' sound. It’s almost like a nasal sound)|
|Child (female)||niña||knee-nnă (again the 'n' has a tilde so give it more emphasis and a nasal sound)|
|Mister||señor||see-nnor (the 'n' has a tilde so give it more emphasis) (notice it ends in 'or')|
|Missus||señora||see-nnor-ă (the 'n' has a tilde so give it more emphasis)|
|Miss||señorita||see-nnor-ē-tă (the 'n' has a tilde so give it more emphasis)|
You might already be familiar with some of these words such has hombre, amigo, señor, señora and señorita as they are spoken frequently, even in English. However, you probably were not familiar with how they were spelled. Learning these new people vocabulary words is important but it is not just important to learn how to say them but also how to write and spell them. Therefore, be sure to practice saying each one correctly and see if you can spell them without looking at them. This will be important when you move on to the quiz questions.
