Being able to understand how to use the indirect object pronoun in Spanish can be tricky and will take some time before you can really get a good grasp on. In this quiz you will have to read a sentence in Spanish and then try to find what the indirect object pronoun would be in English. You will need to pay close attention to the subject matter of the sentence to find the correct indirect object pronoun as it will not be shown to you in capitalized letter.

Do not forget the rule about the indirect object pronoun of 'se' and how and when it should be used. Now, if you are quite ready, you may begin the quiz. Here, nos replaced the pronoun for us and since us is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.

    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is me. Me does not mean her, you familiar singular) or you (formal singular) so the first, third and last answers can be eliminated. This sentence translates as: My aunt gives me shirts. (The literal translation is: My aunt to me gives shirts.) Here, me replaced the pronoun of me (that’s easy enough) and since me is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.

    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is te. Te does not mean him or them so the second and last answers can be eliminated. Te means you (familiar singular) so the first answer you (formal singular) must also be eliminated. This sentence translates as: Peter throws you a ball. (The literal translation is: Peter throws to you a ball.) Here, te replaced the pronoun you and since you is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.
  6. El profesor se lo envía.
    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is se. The first and third answers are possessive pronouns. We are not looking for possessive pronouns in this quiz. Se does not mean me so the second answer can also be eliminated. This sentence translates as: The teacher sends it to him. (The literal translation is: The teacher to him sends it.) The indirect object pronoun for him is le. However, when the direct object pronoun begins with an L as in 'lo le', it becomes se.

    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is le. The second, third and last answers are each possessive pronouns. We are not looking for possessive pronouns in this quiz. That leaves you with the first answer her. This sentence translates as: He delivers flowers to her. (The literal translation is: He delivers to her flowers.) Here, le is used after the verb. This is a circumstance where the indirect object pronoun can be used after the verb.

    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is les. Les does not mean us or me so the first and second answers can be eliminated. Les means you (formal plural) so the last answer you (familiar plural) must also be eliminated. This sentence translates as: They present them with money. (The literal translation is: To them they present money.) Here, les replaced the pronoun for them and since them is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.
  9. El abogado os habló.
    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is os. The last answer is a possessive pronoun and is not what we are looking for here so it can be eliminated. Os does not mean us so it, too, can be eliminated. Os means you (familiar plural) so the first answer you (formal plural) needs to be eliminated. This sentence translates as: The lawyer talked to you. (The literal translation is: The lawyer to you talked.) Here, os replaced the pronoun for you and since you is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.
  10. Nos anunció la noticia.
    The indirect object pronoun in this sentence is nos. Nos does not mean them, her or him so the first, second and third answers can be eliminated. Nos means us. This sentence translates as: He announced to us the news. (The literal translation is: To us he announced the news.) Here, nos replaced the pronoun for us and since us is the indirect object pronoun as it is being acted upon and is not doing the action, it comes before the verb.
